Indoor climbing continues to rise in popularity, training for outdoors for some, replacement for the gym for others and an activity in its own right for others.

With a large number of indoor walls across the North East (roped and bouldering at venues such as Newcastle Climbing Centre, Sunderland Wall, ROF59 roped only such as Newburn Leisure Centre and bouldering only such as Eden Rock (Newcastle), Climb Newcastle (The Pool in Byker, The Valley in Ouseburn) and Friction Bouldering) there is plenty of variety and learning opportunities.

We can provide introductory sessions of 3 x 2 hours, half day or full day sessions to suit aspirations and previous experience; see Content for more details.

Ratios up to 1:6.

We can help you by providing a structured, safe and progressive programme over 2 days to develop your lead climbing, typically covering the following areas:

  • Movement and climbing technique
  • Gear choice, placement and evaluation
  • Belays and belaying
  • Ropework
  • Route selection and reading
  • Lots of climbing and consolidation

This is a very practical and hands on course which will flex to meet your needs. We pride ourselves on the delivery that will provide a lot of reasons why certain techniques or methods are advised. The emphasis is on progression and ensuring you build a better toolkit of ideas and techniques to support your trad climbing journey.

This two day course will run on single pitch crags at a venue which maximises learning opportunities and is most appropriate for the clients, forecast and prevailing weather conditions.

Each day will be entirely crag based, meeting 09:30 and typically finishing 16:00 each day.

All technical equipment will be provided but please advise on the booking form if you require climbing helmet or shoes. If you have your own gear then feel free to bring it along.
