Indoor climbing continues to rise in popularity, training for outdoor climbing, replacement for the gym or an activity in its own right.
With a large number of indoor walls across the North East (roped and bouldering at venues such as Newcastle Climbing Centre, Sunderland Wall, ROF59 roped only such as Newburn Leisure Centre and bouldering only such as Eden Rock (Newcastle), Climb Newcastle (The Pool in Byker, The Valley in Ouseburn) and Friction Bouldering) there is plenty of variety and learning opportunities.
Introductory or development sessions of 2 hours, half day or full day sessions to suit aspirations and previous experience; see Content for more details.
Ratios up to 1:6.
Aimed at the newer or less experienced indoor climber, the focus will be on establishing a solid foundation of technical skills and awareness whether for roped climbing, bouldering or both. The following areas are typically covered:
- Common (Bouldering and Roped):
- Foundation Movement skills and climbing technique
- Understanding different hand and footholds
- Route/problem grading
- Risk awareness, safety and etiquette
- For Roped Climbing:
- Buddy checks and climbing calls
- Tying in
- Belaying and lowering
- Use of auto-belays (where relevant)
Sessions will run at a wall of your choice or by agreement, typically this will require registration with the wall though this will be clarified on booking.
You will be able to hire shoes and/or harness if required though if you have your own gear then please bring it along.
